Memorial Park Scrolls of the Florida Fallen Exhibit

Museum of Science and History 1025 Museum Circle, Jacksonville

Join Memorial Park Association and the Museum of Science and History as they present an exhibit of the scrolls bearing the names of over 1,200 Florida men and women who served during World War I and subsequently died a service-related death. The Florida Fallen were commemorated when Memorial Park was dedicated Christmas Day, 1924, and their names were interred at the base of the fountain. After Hurricane Irma ripped through Jacksonville in September 2017, Memorial Park Association became concerned that the scrolls, although buried in a lead box within a bronze box, had suffered water damage. The scrolls were dug up and painstakingly restored by staff at the Archaeological Maritime Lab at the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
