Visitors to Memorial Park will notice work at the Riverside Avenue/Margaret Street entrance. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) began work the week of October 12, 2020 on an intersection and traffic signal improvement project at Riverside Avenue (State Road 211) and Margaret Street, at the northwest corner of Memorial Park. Improvements will include replacing overhead traffic signal span wires with mast arms, upgrading pedestrian signal poles featuring countdown timers, installing new illuminated historic street signs, sidewalk and curb repair work and roadway striping.
Lane closures and overnight detours will be necessary to complete certain work items. Business and residential access will be maintained at all times, as will access to Memorial Park. Pedestrians are encouraged to follow the signed detours in place while sidewalk and curb work are underway.
The contract was awarded Dec. 18, 2019 to American Lighting and Signalization, Inc., which is scheduled to complete the $363,000 project by early 2021, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
