Robert Green Robertson

Boy 1st class. Nicknamed “Tootsie.” Born in Talladega, Alabama, on October 8, 1899, one of five children, “Tootsie” lived in Tampa in 1910 with his family at 309 Pine Street. His father, James B. Robertson, was in the brokerage business until his death in January 1916. Reportedly, Fred Turner of the local Y.M.C.A. served as his guardian when he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at Tampa on December 16, 1916. He gave a Birmingham address as his residence, but that was where his invalid mother was living at the time. She died in 1921. His name was included on the West Coast Memorial Highway Monuments in Tampa. (USCG Service Card; Veterans Administration Master Index)
