FLORIDA BICYCLE ASSOCIATION DONATES TWO BICYCLE RACKS FOR MEMORIAL PARK
INSTALLATION: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2, 9:00 A.M.

Jacksonville, Fla. February 29, 2016 On Wednesday, March 2nd, at 9 A.M., the City of Jacksonville will install 2 bicycle racks in Memorial Park. The Florida Bicycle Association (via a 2015 donation to the FBA from Jacksonville triathlete coach, Jen Vogel of Velocity Multi Sport) donated the bicycle racks to the Memorial Park Association to be used in the park.

It’s been a long process, said Florida Bicycle Association Executive DirectorBecky Afonso.  When the FBA received the donation from Jen Vogel at the beginning of 2015, I made a promise to her to do something for cyclists in the Jacksonville area. To finally see the donation being put to good use has been worth the effort.

In 2015, Velocity Multi Sport encouraged their coaches to be multifaceted and to give back to their community, not just in the sport of triathlon but however it speaks to them. Coach Jen’s fundraising project was a 2015 calendar featuring local female athletes with their bicycles, to help raise money and awareness for the Florida Bicycle Association, a non-for-profit that educates bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists about safely sharing roadways and paths.

Afonso also said, The 2015 calendar became a fun, sexy, and unique way to highlight the bikes and women that train on Jacksonville roads daily. The calendar was tastefully done and incorporated bicycle safety education along with inspirational bios of the athletes/models. They may not be your everyday cyclist, but these are real women with real stories who really RIDE.

Known as the 2015 Share the Road calendar girls, Coach Jen Vogel and 11 other women have now fulfilled their intentions of giving back to the Jacksonville community.

Agnes Danciger, the Memorial Park Association president, said, We are so grateful for this generous donation! So many of our visitors ride their bikes to the park and will now have a place to secure them while they enjoy the park.
